It became more popular in the 19th Century after a Carmelite nun, Sister Marie of St. Peters, reported in 1845 her vision that God wished a formal devotion be established. This was at a time of an increasing devotion to Jesus's interior life, known as the Sacred Heart. Among those devoted, Therese Martin took the name
