Aubrey de Vere, 20th Earl of Oxford Size:extra large While scholars have believed thisAubrey de Vere (1626 1703) served as an officer in the Dutch army until 1648. As a Royalist, he had his estates sequestrated under Cromwell and was twice imprisoned. He acted as envoy to recall Charles II, but later opposed James II and joined the Prince of Orange.
